Description

The Old Rectory is an early 18th-century rectory, later converted into five flats. Rear additions and alterations were made in the 19th and 20th centuries, with further changes in the 1980s. The building is constructed of brick in a Flemish bond pattern, with some blue headers, and has a parapeted roof with stone ridge stacks. It is of an early Georgian style, featuring a double-depth plan.

The exterior is three storeys high and symmetrical, with a five-window front. It has plat bands above each floor, an ashlar cornice, and a stone-coped brick parapet. Giant ashlar pilasters extend up the corners of the building and to the top floor, with a truncated pilaster above the central window. The segmental-headed entrance has a key and overlight to a small-paned, half-glazed door. The segmental-headed windows in the main range contain 6/6 horned sashes, with 6/3 sashes to the top floor; they have narrow sills, the first-floor sills being moulded.

A return is partly plastered. A 19th-century rear wing has a slate, double-gabled roof and large windows with 12-pane and 16-pane sashes. The 20th century has entrances and a possible earlier entrance to the right return with fluted pilasters and overlight. A 20th-century single-storey rear block is also present.

The interior was not inspected during listing, but it is noted to feature enriched-panelled window shutters and a stick-baluster staircase with a cut string and moulded handrail to the right return.
