Description
Megginch Castle is a farmhouse that likely dates from the late 18th century. It is a two-storey, three-bay structure with an L-shaped plan and a piend roof. The building is constructed of dark red brick set on a stone base, featuring brick jambs. The front displays a bonding pattern of four courses of stretchers alternating with one course of headers.
The south elevation is symmetrical, featuring a pitch-roofed porch made of slated brick at the center of the ground floor. This porch has windows on its sides, with a timber door and windows in the flanking bays. There is a stone sundial with a gnomon dated '1757' at the outer left corner, and regular fenestration near the eaves on the first floor.
On the west elevation, there is a window on the right side at each floor, with a wallhead stack located centrally above. The east elevation has a single window on the outer left at ground level and a rebuilt wallhead stack in the center, along with a later single-storey bay on the outer right.
The north elevation, which is the rear, shows a variety of elements due to alterations, including a later single-storey ancillary structure made of rubble.
The windows throughout the building feature 4-pane and plate glass glazing patterns in timber sash and case frames. The roof is covered with grey slates, and there are coped brick stacks with some chimney cans.
Inside, there are box beds, although they were not seen during the inspection in 2000.
