Description
The Walled Garden at Megginch Castle consists of two main sections: the Top (Kitchen) Garden and the North Garden. The Top Garden, located to the east of the stables, was established in 1711 and later modified in 1872. It features a rectangular plan with an earlier north wall made of brick on a rubble base, which may date back to the 16th century. The other walls are made of coped rubble. This garden includes a rose garden, which could also be from the 16th century, as well as an astrological garden created in 1993.
The North Garden, built in 1796, is another rectangular-plan walled garden situated to the north. It is constructed of red brick and has a lean-to structure made of polychrome brick on the southwest side. This structure features gothic-arched openings, a central door, and flanking windows with decorative astragals. Additionally, there is a Celtic cross made of fiberglass present in this garden.
