Description
The Chapel and Burial Ground at Megginch Castle, built in 1679 and rebuilt in 1781, is a small, rectangular-plan chapel featuring crowstepped gables and a small graveyard. The structure is made of snecked rubble with squared quoins and dressed ashlar margins, showcasing a Gothic window and chamfered arrises.
On the northwest elevation, there is a wide boarded timber door located at the center bay, which abuts the eaves. The southwest elevation presents a gabled façade with a pointed-arch window at the center. The southeast elevation, facing the graveyard, has a small square window to the right of center. The chapel features fixed glazing with stained glass on the southwest side and is topped with graded grey slates and ashlar-coped crowsteps.
Inside, the chapel contains moral monuments and a small lectern sundial of late 17th-century design, which bears an inscription from 1890 dedicated to 'PH' (Peter Hay) and 'MS' (Marjory Scrymegour) located at the northeast corner.
