Description
Betton Alkmere is a farmhouse dating from the late 18th century or early 19th century, with early to mid-19th century additions and alterations. It is constructed of red brick and features a slate roof, designed in an H-plan shape with two and three storeys. The building has deep eaves, integral brick end stacks, a brick ridge stack, and an integral lateral stack at the rear.
The facade consists of three bays with glazing bar sash windows that have gauged brick heads, featuring 16 panes on the ground and first floors. The central door has flush panels, with the top four panels being glazed. Above the door is a four-part rectangular overlight, and the doorcase includes panelled pilasters, shaped brackets, and a segmental pediment with a broken back cornice, all set within a segmental gauged-brick arched recess. There is also a mid- or late 19th century gabled lattice wooden porch with scalloped barge boards and a finial.
Although the interior has not been inspected, it is noted to have internal panelled shutters. The roof may have been replaced in the mid-19th century, as indicated by the deep eaves and verges.
