Description
The gates and walls to Minster Abbey are located on the north side of Minster Church Street and date from the 17th century and early 19th century. The structure is made of brown brick, with the base constructed in English bond, and includes flint. The wall stands approximately 6 and a half feet high and extends about 65 yards to the left and 35 yards to the right of the gate, with a return to the north on both sides. The paired gates feature spiked uprights and a swept top rail, along with pierced iron piers topped with large spearhead finials. There are railings extending 5 yards to the left and right of the gate, set on a low brick base.
