Description

The pair of cottages at 1 and 3 Church Street date to 1710. They are built of brown brick, with No. 3 painted. The roofs are covered in plain tiles, and the building has a hipped roof with a central stack cluster and two flat-roofed dormers. A plat band runs along the front. The ground floor of No. 1 has two segmental-headed sash windows with glazing bars, alongside a central door with six panels and a flat hood. To the right, No. 3 has two segmental-headed paired sash windows with glazing bars, and a central door with six raised and fielded panels. A small central plaque inscribed "M:E" is positioned above a segmental-headed wooden casement that breaks through the plat band. The first floor features four segmental-headed sash windows with glazing bars, though these are of slightly different sizes on each cottage. Wallside Cottage (No. 1) was once the home of Sir Adrian Boult.
