Description
The precinct walls to the northwest of the Abbey Church date back to the 16th century but are primarily from the late 18th century, with some repairs from the 19th century. They are constructed of brick and flint arranged in courses, topped with coping bricks. Inside, there are brick strip buttresses, which are mirrored on the outside as flush flint piers. This section of the wall extends west from the Sunday School and then turns south along Becketswell Road to the main gates, which are located opposite the church's north porch. The gates, made of wrought iron, were created by Boulton & Paul of Norwich in the 19th century.
