Description

The Ada Hart Room and The Abbey Schoolroom, originally a Sunday School and office, was built in 1812. It is constructed of brick and features a roof made of black glazed pantiles. The building has a central hipped mass that is two storeys high and consists of three bays, with single hipped entrance bays on the east and west that are set back from the main wall planes. The north front facing the street has three late 20th-century top-hung casements on each floor of the central block, all under segmental arches. There is a pedestrian entrance in the west extension bay and a gabled porch entrance in the corresponding eastern bay. The eaves have a soffit detail. The south elevation also has three casements on each floor of the central block, some of which are partly from the 20th century. A datestone on the first floor indicates that it was established as a Sunday School in 1812.

Inside, there is a timber chimneypiece in the west wall of the main block with a shouldered surround. A stick baluster staircase rises in the west extension bay to the first floor, where there is a similar chimneypiece and a king post roof.
