Description

Jacob's Ladder is a flight of steps built in 1826 by John Shaw, located at Ramsgate Royal Harbour. The structure is made of ashlar and features dog-leg stairs with three flights, each flanked by rounded towers also made of ashlar. Each flight includes a wide central pilaster and has landings in the center. An iron balustrade runs along the steps, and both the flights and towers are topped with ashlar coping. This stairway replaces an earlier wooden flight from around 1750, which was situated 100 yards to the east.
