Description

The Lodge and Courtyard at Bon Secours Nursing Home is a stable and cottage complex, now used as cottages and stables, dating from the 19th century and built in various periods. It is constructed of stock brick, part painted, and features a slate roof. The building stands two storeys high with a plat band and a hipped roof that has a central gablet, a roundel, and a leaded square cupola topped with a weather vane. There are three chimney stacks arranged from left to right.

The facade includes five wooden casement windows, with one on the right differing in pattern, alongside two wooden casements and a sash window at the end right. On the ground floor to the left are two lunette windows, while to the right are two wooden casements, one metal casement, and a sash window. The entrance features a boarded door to the left, a half-glazed door in the center, and a half-glazed door within a 20th-century glazed porch at the end right. There are carriage openings at the end left and center right, along with a single-storey extension at the end right.

To the left is a courtyard enclosed by a boundary wall made of flint and brick, approximately 8 feet high, with a boarded gate. The west wall of the yard is curving and features open arcaded sheds, while the east wall has a single-storey building that was originally the groom's cottage. The cobbled yard floor includes the date 1890 set in colored cobbles. The left portion of the main range, which has the lunette windows, still contains the loose boxes and flooring of the stables.
