Description

The presbytery of the Roman Catholic Church of St Lawrence is located on the west side of High Street in Edenbridge. This building features an irregular front with two storeys and four windows, unifying two distinct sections. The left part dates from around 1840 and has a slated roof with a hipped end facing the road. The right part is from the early 18th century or earlier and has a hipped tiled roof. A very deep bracketed soffit at the eaves level of the later building ties the front together, and there is fancy tiling below. The early 19th century sash windows have glazing bars in exposed frames, while the two right ground floor windows have modern casements. A chimney breast is located on the left side. To the right of the chimney, there is a large panel of incised stucco featuring a late 18th century doorcase with a panelled reveal and an open pediment supported by side entablatures over clustered narrow pilasters. The entrance consists of a four-panel double door beneath a patterned fanlight.
