Description

Number 1, Oak End and Little Oak End is a house dating to 1614, with significant alterations from the 18th century and restoration in the mid-19th century. The building presents a symmetrical facade with a 3-bay arrangement. It is two storeys high. A central, projecting gable, clad in tiles, over-sails the first floor and is supported by carved stone brackets and brick pilasters on the ground floor, one on either side of the centre door. The main elevation is of red brick with blue headers in the arches over the windows, which have rubbed red brick headers. Red brick dressings extend vertically up the elevation to frame the windows. Corner brick pilasters are present. A brick plinth runs along the base, and an eaves and gutter run along the top. The roof is tiled with four gable dormers. A tall brick stack is centrally positioned. The central gable has moulded barge-boards. Sash windows with glazing bars are present on both floors. A mullioned and transomed lattice casement window is located on the first floor within the projecting gable, with a small attic window above. The centre door is vertically panelled oak, with a pointed ogee arch over, constructed of red brick, and situated beneath the projecting gable feature. Brick pilasters flank the door. An ornamental cast iron railing borders the pavement in front of the building.
