Description

This is a former goods shed, dating from the 19th century, situated at Edenbridge Town Station. It is constructed of red brick in English bond, with grey brick headers and polychrome details in yellow and black brick. The roof is gabled and covered in slate.

The shed is a single-storey building with five bays, extending 90 feet in length and aligned north-west to south-east. A small, contemporary office is situated at the south-east end.

The north-west end has a pediment featuring an oculus and a modillion cornice, covering two bays with recessed panels. One panel contains full-height double doors with wooden bracing. The north-east side elevation has five bays with recessed panels, each containing round-headed openings with cast iron fanlights, yellow brick arches, and impost blocks. The south-west side mirrors the north-east, again with five bays, but only six arches in total as the end bays contain full-height wooden loading doors. The south-east end features a similar pediment with an oculus and a full-height double door in one bay. The other bay is obscured by a lower brick gabled building constructed in matching materials. A sash window faces north-east, and a simple doorcase is present on the south-east side. Blocking is evident to further windows on both the south-east and south-west sides, but the yellow brick voussoirs and cills remain.

Inside, the shed has a softwood kingpost roof divided into ten trusses, supported by side purlins and a ridge piece. A later beam has been inserted between the second and third truss on the north-west end, and iron strengthening ties have been added. The office is accessed by a short flight of steps.
