Description

Hilders Farmhouse is an early 17th century wing added to a 15th century hall house. The front facing the road has two storeys and gable end attic windows. The structure features exposed framing and half timbering, with brick infilling on the ground floor and rendered infilling above. It has a ridge tile roof, with one end hipped and a ridge stack. There are two square bay projections with windows that support oversailing gable ends, which have carved brackets and a moulded crosspiece. The front door is located between the bay projections and has a projecting tiled hood over it. The first floor has bay windows with mullions and transoms, along with various other casement windows that are placed irregularly. The right part of the house, which dates from the 15th century, has visible timber framing and a stout diagonal brace beneath a large hipped roof. The rear view features two gables and a gabled central staircase projection, along with modern rear extensions. Inside, there is much exposed timber and a stout roof truss with a carved crown post. Hilders Farmhouse and the barn form a group.
