Description

The listed buildings consist of two barns, Tithe Barn North and Tithe Barn South, likely dating from the 16th to 17th centuries, incorporating earlier timbers. Later alterations have been made to the buildings. They are timber framed and have weather-boarded exterior cladding, with a plain tile half-hipped roof. The barn is five bays wide, containing a central threshing floor with full-height, weather-boarded doors at both the front and rear. Originally, the barns likely existed as separate structures and were joined on the north-west side of the threshing floor, a joining point which is most noticeable at the rear of the barn. The interior of the two north-west bays exhibits two large braces in the north-west end wall, along with diagonal braces, some originally large with mortises for other large braces, now replaced by braces of thinner scantling. There are also short, curved tie beam braces, a tie beam featuring a mortise for a former crown-post, and some old, thick rafters. The three-bay south-east section has longer tie beam braces.
