Description
Thirkells Barn, formerly the barn to the east of Harborough, is a 17th-century structure that was altered in the 19th century. It features a four-and-a-half bay framed design, with the exterior clad in weatherboarding resting on a 19th-century brick plinth. The roof is peg tiled, hipped to the south and gabled to the north, which includes a penticed bay adjacent to a central plain cart entrance. The roof structure consists of a mix of queen strut and queen post trusses. The barn has gunstock jowled posts and some diagonal tension braces in the wall frame. The rafters were renewed in the 20th century. There is a 20th-century lean-to attached on the south side, which is not of special interest.
