Description
The Threshing Barn, located within Homme Castle Barns at Shelsley Walsh, is a 17th-century barn with 19th-century modifications. Built of coursed rubble and timber-frame construction, it features brick infill, some weatherboarding, and a plain tiled roof. The barn has five bays, notable for its central cart entries facing each other, with a gabled porch to the north door. The timber framing consists of one square panel, set upon a tall coursed rubble wall, with 19th-century brick ventilation slits at ground floor level. Inside, the gable end roof trusses have four queen struts intersecting raking struts to form an X shape in the apex. Intermediate trusses lack collars and have two raking struts. Ridge and trenched purlins are also present.
