Description

The gate, gate piers, wall, and railings to Hextable House, which is part of the North West Kent Teacher Training Centre, date from the 18th century and are the only remnants of Hextable House, demolished shortly after World War II. The structure features two square red brick piers; the left pier is truncated to about 6 feet high, while the right pier stands at approximately 8 feet and has a moulded stone cornice. There is a stone band a few inches above ground level and a central stone step. Between the piers are wrought iron spear railings that reach about 7 feet in height, reinforced by intermediate spear railings that are about 18 inches tall, along with a central round-headed cast iron gate adorned with elaborate scrolled decoration. The entire area is now covered in wisteria. The gate is flanked by piers topped with iron finials. To the right, there is a brick wall about 3 feet high, topped with iron spear railings, and a round-headed gate, alongside another square brick pier that is about 10 feet tall with a stone cornice. This site is included for its fine 18th-century ironwork and its historical significance as the last remaining part of Hextable House.
