Description
The barn located to the south-west of Hartley Court, which faces the road, is a structure that was partially demolished following a fire at the time of the resurvey. It dates from the 18th century, with part of it rebuilt and re-roofed in the early 19th century. The barn features red brick, with sections of 18th-century random bond that include blocked ventilation slits on a deep plinth topped with a moulded brick course, as well as parts in early 19th-century Flemish bond. The roof is tiled, and the gable end is weatherboarded. At the time of the survey, only the southern half of the barn remained intact, consisting of three bays with kingposts, ridge pieces, and diagonal braces. The northern section, made of 18th-century brickwork, stood to a height of about 5 feet and included brick buttresses. The barn has group value with Hartley Court and the Parish Church.
