Description
The Church of All Saints is a Grade I listed building located on Hartley Church Road. It dates back to the 12th century, with a nave from that period and a chancel from the 14th century. In the 19th century, a north vestry and south porch were added, and the bell-turret at the west end was rebuilt. The church is constructed of flint with stone dressings and features a tiled roof. The turret is weatherboarded and topped with a broached shingled spire. The south door has hinges that likely date to the 12th century, and there are two Norman windows in the nave from the same period. The chancel arch is from the 13th century, while the nave has a crown post roof. Inside, there is a Purbeck marble font that dates to the 13th and 15th centuries, and the chancel contains a marble monument to James Burrow, who died in 1729. Additional features include a piscina and a Jacobean pulpit. The churchyard is home to several notable 18th-century headstones adorned with cherubs, as well as some 19th-century oval bodystones.
