Description
Fairby Grange Convalescent Home is a 17th-century L-shaped timber-framed building, now faced in roughcast. It has two storeys and an old tiled roof that is hipped at one end, featuring two hipped dormers. The front elevation includes three altered casement windows and an entrance beneath a modern gabled porch. Inside, there is an iron plaque with the initials TY 1685 on the side of the house, which likely refers to the building's date, although it may not be in its original position. The interior also features inglenook fireplaces. The name Fairby is derived from local landowners Feerby or Ferby, who were prominent in the 15th and 16th centuries, and the Young family owned the property throughout the 17th and 18th centuries.
