Description

This is a wall and set of gate piers dating to the early 19th century, located to the north and east of White Lodge in Chevening. The wall is constructed of ragstone with galleting and stone coping. Outside White Lodge, the wall stands approximately 8 feet tall, featuring tooled stone coping and openings leading to Lone Cedar and The Old Coach House. In front of The Old Coach House, the wall lowers to 3 feet with stone coping, while in front of White Lodge, the wall curves around three stone gate piers and a 19th-century gate. To the outside of Cedar Quillet, a similar section of wall exists, incorporating an opening that is ramped down and terminates in a pilaster. In front of Tall Trees, the wall ramps down to 4 feet with curved stone coping and incorporates two square brick piers topped with stone copings. The layout includes stone piers and a curved screen wall forming part of an ongoing wall along Chipstead Lane.
