Description
The gate piers and wall fronting Wood Street at The Lodge are a boundary wall dating from the early 19th century. The wall is constructed of red sandstone random rubble masonry, standing about 2.5 meters high at the eastern end and stepping down to approximately 1.5 meters at the western end. At the western end, there is a pointed arch opening flanked by pilasters topped with sandstone coping stones, although the left pilaster was concealed by ivy at the time of the survey. The opening features a round-headed ledge and a plank studded door. To the west of the center, the wall curves back to mark the entrance, which is defined by square gate piers made of snecked squared, coursed red sandstone with pyramid tops. The gates themselves are not included in the listing.
