Description
Little Halls and Old Halls is a house, now divided, dating from the early 19th century, possibly incorporating an earlier dwelling. It is constructed of red sandstone random rubble masonry and features a hipped slate roof with brick stacks. The building has an "L"-shaped plan, with the main and longer facade facing south, while the shorter eastern front plays an important role in closing the view down North Street.
The house is two stories tall and has four bays. On the first floor, there are two 12-pane sash windows to the left, a large cruciform window with leaded panes containing stained glass, and another 19th-century cruciform window to the right. Below, on the right, there is a similar window flanking the main entrance porch, which has an inserted 20th-century door to the left, a 12-pane sash window, and a 20th-century door in the outer bay to the left, leading to the domestic wing. The window openings are framed with rusticated raised casement surrounds.
The flat-roofed porch has a moulded cornice and a four-centred arch doorway with double doors. The front door is six panels with panelled reveals. The right return has three bays, featuring a 12-pane sash window in the ground floor centre and a three-light bay window with a pentice hood. The interior has not been viewed.
