Description
This early 19th century house, originally a single dwelling, has been divided into two parts: Carlton House and Little Carlton House. It was refronted and enlarged in the early 19th century, likely onto an earlier structure. The exterior is rendered to resemble ashlar, with prominent quoin strips and a slate roof featuring coped verges on the right side. Brick stacks are visible on the right and between the first and second bay on the left. The building is two storeys and four bays wide, with an inserted six-pane window in the outer bay on the left. The other bays contain 16-pane sash windows, with the exception of the window above the main entrance and the 12-pane sash window in the second bay on the right. A flat-roofed porch with an entablature, dentil mouldings, and columns resting on a low wall provides access to a partially glazed door, approached by two steps. An entrance to the original service wing, now Little Carlton House, has a 20th-century glazed door in the outer bay on the left.
