Description

Mansion Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the 15th century. It is timber-framed, with the ground floor covered in a chequered pattern of red and grey brick added in the 19th century. The end bays of the first floor are tile-hung. The hall features close-studded timber framing with plaster infilling. The right side elevation is made of red brick with occasional grey headers arranged in English bond on the ground floor, while the first floor is tile-hung. The roof is plain tiled and hipped, with the hip returned along the right side elevation. The building has a Wealden layout, with a hall that may consist of one or possibly two bays, and storeyed bays at either end, the right bay being longer. It has two storeys and a cellar beneath the right end bay. The end bays project outwards, and there is a multiple brick ridge stack located off-centre to the right, along with a smaller projecting stack with a stone base at the right end. The windows are irregularly placed, featuring three 3-light 19th-century casements—one in each outer bay and one in the hall. At the left end of the right end bay, there is a ribbed door with a 4-centred arched head, decorated with carved leaves in the spandrels. A 19th-century addition is located at the rear on the right side. The interior has not been inspected.
