Description

Churchill Cottage is a house row dating to the early 16th century, with a 19th-century addition. The right and central sections are timber-framed, while the ground floor of the right end is rendered. The central section displays partly exposed studding and red brick infilling. A stone addition with red brick dressings is located at the left end. The entire first floor is weatherboarded, and the roof is covered with plain tiles.

The building has two timber-framed bays, originally part of an open hall, and the 19th-century addition. It stands on a stone plinth and features a jetty to the right gable end. A brick stack is positioned in the front slope of the roof, off-centre to the left of the timber-framed section. The timber-framed building's roof is hipped to the right and slopes down to the 19th-century roofline to the left. The fenestration is irregular, with five two-light casement windows. The 19th-century addition is double-fronted, featuring three windows across the main range. A boarded door is centrally placed on the 19th-century addition, while a 20th-century glazed door is located at the right end of the right gable end for No. 8. A 20th-century extension exists to the rear.

Inside No. 7, which incorporates the left timber-framed bay and the 19th-century addition, there is a finely moulded inglenook bressumer with long speared leaves in the spandrels, alongside exposed timbers. The interior of No. 8 was not inspected. The property is listed for its group value.
