Description

Elmstone Farmhouse is a 15th-century farmhouse situated south of Elmstone Hole, on the Hole Road. The ground floor is rendered, while the first floor is timber-framed with plaster infilling. The building is set approximately at right angles to the road and comprises approximately four timber-framed bays. It stands on a plinth with a jetty projecting from the left (road) end. The first floor exhibits broadly-spaced studs with large tension braces to the outer bays. The steeply-pitched hipped roof features gablets. A large projecting stack with a stone base is located at the left end, and a smaller red brick stack is situated on the front slope of the roof, off-centre to the left. The fenestration includes four mullion windows with leaded lights, specifically a three-light casement to the left bay, a two-light casement to the left end of the hall, a large two-light casement to the right end of the hall, and a 20th-century two-light pivoting window to the right end bay. A ribbed door, featuring a rectangular light, sits beneath a flat canopy to the left of the stack. A lean-to is attached to the right side. The interior was not inspected.
