Description
Liberton Cottage, also known as Liberton Hall, is a house row located on Lenham Headcorn Road in Grafty Green, partly within the Boughton Malherbe civil parish. This building dates back to the mid-15th century and features a timber-framed structure with a ground floor made of red brick and a first floor that is tile-hung with fishscale tiles. The rear elevation showcases exposed wall posts, tension braces, and plaster infilling. The roof is covered with plain tiles and is oriented at right angles to the road.
The house has an open hall divided into two roughly equal bays, with a storeyed bay at either end. It is quite large, standing two storeys high with attics and a hipped roof. There is a prominent multiple brick stack on the front slope of the roof, positioned off-centre to the left, along with two projecting brick stacks at the left end and one at the right. The fenestration is irregular, consisting of five 2-light casements. A ribbed door leads to Liberton Hall beneath the stack, while another door provides access to Liberton Cottage, located to the right of centre. The interior has been partly inspected and features a moulded crown-post, a hollow chamfered inserted floor, and exposed timbers in Liberton Hall.
