Description

Elmstone Hole Farmhouse is a 15th-century timber-framed farmhouse located on the north side of Elmstone Hole Road in Lenham. It is a Wealden-style building, originally comprising a hall of two unequal bays with a single-story bay at each end. The farmhouse sits on a stone plinth. The right and left end bays are jettied to the front and feature close-studding and large tension braces. The hall has a broad rail, and the cill of the hall window is positioned a few feet from the base cill. Curved braces support the flying wall-plate. The roof is hipped, with a brick ridge stack located off-centre to the right (in the smaller bay of the hall). The windows are irregular, with a total of five openings containing leaded lights: two single-light mullioned casements in the left end bay, a five-light ovolo-moulded mullion window in the left bay of the hall, a two-light mullion window in the right bay of the hall, and a four-light casement in the right end bay. A ribbed door, set under a four-centred arch with hollow spandrels, is located at the right end of the hall. There is a lean-to addition to the right. The interior has not been inspected.
