Description

Langley Corner Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the 15th century, with alterations made in the late 16th to early 17th century. It is constructed of timber framing with rendered infilling, and part of the ground floor on the right side has been replaced with painted brick. The roof is covered with plain tiles.

The building features a Wealden design, comprising an open hall with two slightly unequal-length bays, and storeyed bays at either end, the right bay being broader. It has two storeys and an attic, set on a stone plinth. The right and left end bays project outwards, with jetties that return on moulded dragon posts. The front elevation and gable ends are close-studded, with the right gable end displaying a horizontal moulded fillet halfway up the first floor. There is an arch-braced flying wall-plate, a solid bracket under the central tie-beam, and another apparent tie-beam in the centre of the left bay of the hall. The roof is hipped with gablets.

On the left gable end, there is a broad, partly renewed, projecting brick stack on a stone base, and another brick stack is located on the front slope of the roof at the right end of the right bay of the hall. A dormer is present on the right hip. The fenestration is irregular, featuring four windows: one three-light wooden mullion window in each outer bay, a tall, narrow wooden mullion window with three pointed lights between the mid-rail and eaves beneath the stack, and a quadripartite hall window in the centre of the left bay of the hall, with each part consisting of four narrow pointed lights. There is a ribbed and boarded door with a four-centred arched head and hollow spandrels located at the left end of the right bay of the hall. A lean-to is present at the rear. The interior has not been inspected.
