Description

TQ 76 SE DETLING SCRAGGED OAK ROAD (west side)

1/136 Pollyfields Farmhouse 26.4.68 (formerly listed under Bedhurst Road) G.V. II

House. Late C15 or early C16. Timber framed with rendered infilling, left end possibly rebuilt with studs painted on render, and C20 tile-hung gable. Wealden house of 4 bays with 2-by open hall, the left bay of which only about 4 feet long, right end bay storeyed, left end bay possibly rebuilt. 2 storeys, all but left end bay on plinth. Right end bay has bracketted jetty. Heavy cill to right bay of hall about 2 feet above ground cill, possibly base of hall window. Close-studded, with slightly more widely spaced studs on first floor. Curved braces to flying wall-plate, arch braces (left end painted) at end of each end bay. Roof hipped to right. Stack in front slope of roof, off-centre to left. Irregular fenestration of 3,2 and 3-light C19 or C20 casements. Ribbed door in narrow left end bay of former open hall, with simple-plain tiled canopy over. Rear lean-to.
