Description

Pollyfields Farmhouse is a house dating from the late 15th century or early 16th century. It is timber framed with rendered infilling, and the left end may have been rebuilt with studs painted on the render, along with a 20th-century tile-hung gable. This Wealden house consists of four bays, featuring a two-bay open hall, with the left bay being only about 4 feet long. The right end bay is storeyed, while the left end bay may have been rebuilt. The house has two storeys, with all but the left end bay sitting on a plinth. The right end bay features a bracketed jetty, and there is a heavy cill to the right bay of the hall, approximately 2 feet above the ground cill, which may be the base of the hall window. The structure is close-studded, with slightly more widely spaced studs on the first floor. It has curved braces to the flying wall-plate and arch braces (painted) at the end of each bay. The roof is hipped to the right, and there is a stack located on the front slope of the roof, off-centre to the left. The fenestration is irregular, consisting of 3, 2, and 3-light 19th or 20th-century casements. A ribbed door is located in the narrow left end bay of the former open hall, which has a simple plain tiled canopy above it. There is also a rear lean-to.
