Description

Lewis Court is a house dating from the early 16th century, situated on the south side of Green Lane in Boughton Monchelsea. It is an example of a Wealden house, originally comprising 4 timber-framed bays with unequal-length hall bays. The house has a plain tile roof.

The construction is timber-framed with plaster infilling, featuring close-studded panels. A higher midrail is present on the long, left-hand hall bay. The right and left-end bays are jettied to the front, with the jetties continuing on moulded dragon posts. The flying wall-plate is held by almost straight braces. The roof is hipped. A projecting brick gable-end stack is located on the left, and a brick stack sits in the front slope of the roof over the narrow right-end bay of the hall. The window arrangement is irregular, with 4 windows in total; a 3-light window is situated in the left hall bay, alongside a 3-light mullioned window to its left. A ribbed door with a 4-centred arched head is located at the left end of the right-end bay. A rear wing extends to the left, constructed with chequered red and grey brick, possessing a lower ridge and a hipped roof with a gablet. The interior remains uninspected.
