Description

Beresfords is a house dating from the early 19th century, located on Beresfords Hill in Boughton Monchelsea. The front and rear elevations feature channelled render with stone quoins, while the left return elevation is made of ashlar. The house has a tiled roof, which was formerly slate, and is south-facing. It stands two storeys high with a cellar on a vermiculated ashlar plinth, and includes a plat band and flat panelled eaves soffits. The hipped roof has a central rendered stack.

The front of the house has a regular three-window arrangement with recessed 12-pane sashes that have thin glazing bars and Venetian shutters. The left return elevation has three bays with splayed stone heads and flush keystones above the windows, featuring 15-pane sashes on the ground floor. There are semi-circular-headed cellar lights, also with flush keystones. A central half-glazed door with a rectangular fanlight is accessed by four steps, and there is a Doric porch with a modillioned frieze. The left return elevation also includes central French doors with a wrought-iron lamp bracket.

Attached to the south-east corner of the house is a pair of gate piers connected by a red brick wall in Flemish bond that runs south for about 40 feet. The gate piers are approximately 3 metres high, made of vermiculated stone with chamfered rustication on a low plinth and topped with rectangular overhanging caps, providing access to a former stable yard. The interior of the house has not been inspected.
