Description
The Beams Restaurant and No. 39 is a shop, restaurant, and dwelling located on Headcorn High Street, dating from the 18th century and later. The ground floor is constructed of red brick in Flemish bond, while the first floor of No. 39 is weatherboarded. The first floor of the restaurant features exposed studding with rendered infilling and straight braces. The building has a plain tile roof and is two storeys high. The ridge of No. 39 is lower than that of the restaurant, with the right end of the restaurant having a hipped roof. There is a gable end stack to the left of No. 39 and a ridge stack at the junction of No. 39 and the restaurant.
The fenestration is irregular, comprising four windows: one three-light casement window for No. 39 and another at the left end of the restaurant, along with two 16-pane sash windows towards the right end of the restaurant. No. 39 features a bow window with rectangular panes and a plain fascia on the ground floor, while the restaurant has two canted bays and one six-light sash window. A panelled door is located to the right of the bow window for No. 39, and the restaurant has two ribbed doors, one to the right of centre and another at the right end. There is a blocked door or doors to the left of centre of the restaurant. The rear of the building has additions, but the interiors have not been inspected.
