Description

Hubble's Stores Post Office is a house that now functions as a house and shop, dating from the 17th century or earlier, with 19th-century additions and alterations. The building features a timber frame, with the ground floor constructed of red brick in Flemish bond. The first floor is weather-boarded at the front and tile-hung on the right gable end, topped by a plain tile roof. The main range has a 19th-century addition on the left side. It is two storeys high with a hipped roof that has gablets on the main range, and the left hip abuts the lower ridge of the 19th-century addition. There is a multiple brick ridge stack towards the right end and a slender projecting brick stack on the right gable end. The windows are arranged irregularly, including a 12-pane sash on the right end of the 19th-century addition, a tripartite sash to the left of the centre of the main range, and a 16-pane sash on the right end. The front of the 19th-century addition features a glazed rectangular shop front with a plain fascia and recessed half-glazed double doors. There is a panelled door in a 19th-century brick porch beneath the stack. To the rear left, there is a two-storey warehouse made of red and grey brick from the 19th century, and a low rear addition on the right made of red brick with a gambrel roof and an end stack. The interior has not been inspected.
