Description

This is a house dating back to the 16th century, with an earlier wing to the right, and restored in the 1980s. It is timber framed with rendered infilling, and has a plain tile roof. The central section of the 16th century part is timber framed and consists of two bays, the bay to the right being shorter and subdivided into two rooms on the ground floor. There is a cross-wing to the right, which extends to the rear. A separately framed bay or cross-wing is located to the left. The house is two storeys high and sits upon a stone plinth. The right wing juts out on solid brackets, and there is a continuous jetty to the central section, supported by slender moulded shafts beneath solid brackets. The bay on the left end was probably formerly jettied, but is now underbuilt. The right end bay and right central bay have close-studded framing. The left central bay has broadly-spaced close-studding, while the left bay also features broadly-spaced studding with two tension braces. The right wing has higher eaves and a lower ridge, hipped to the front with a gablet. The left end bay previously had lower eaves but is now roofed together with the central section, featuring a hip to the left and a hipped shape down to the right wing. The house has slender projecting brick stacks to the left end, a brick stack to the left end of the right central bay, and a rear brick stack at the junction of the central section and the right wing. The windows are an irregular arrangement of four casements. A ribbed door is located to the right end of the central section. The interior was not inspected.
