Description

The King's Arms Inn and the adjoining shop to the right are located on Headcorn High Street. This building dates from the 18th century or earlier, with alterations made in the 19th century. The right wing features a chequered pattern of red and grey brick, while the rest of the building is pebbledashed. It is built on a corner and has two storeys, with the right wing also having a garret. The roof is hipped to the left and includes a gablet, with the hip returning. The right wing slightly projects forward and has open-work bargeboards on the front gable. There is a brick ridge stack towards the left end of the main range and a smaller stack towards the right end, along with another brick stack on the right side of the right wing. The building has irregular fenestration, featuring four 12-pane sash windows—three on the main range and one with a segmental head on the right wing. The ground floor of the main range has two canted bays, while the right wing has a canted shop window with small rectangular panes and a half-glazed door to the left, all beneath a plain-tiled pentice. Additionally, there is a half-glazed door with a flat bracketed hood located to the right of the centre of the main range. At the rear, there is a return wing to the left facing North Street, along with two further short rear wings to the main range. The interior has not been inspected.
