Description
The King’s Arms Inn dates back to the early 18th century, with possible origins in an earlier structure, and a 19th-century addition. It is constructed of plastered cob walls with a hipped thatch roof and includes a rendered rubble stack at the left-hand end with a brick shaft, two brick axial stacks, and one at the right-hand end. The building comprises two distinct parts. The left-hand section is two rooms wide and deeper, likely representing the original building. An outshut, dating to the late 18th or early 19th century, projects from its right-hand side. The right-hand section, originally a separate cottage, is also two rooms wide. The front of the building presents an asymmetrical façade; the left-hand three-window section has early 20th-century 3-light casement windows on the first floor and a later 20th-century casement to the right on the ground floor. A central 19th-century panelled double door is sheltered by a flat doorhood. The outshut has a catslide roof. The recessed range at the right-hand end features a 3-window front with later 20th-century 2 and 3-light casements and a 20th-century part-glazed door centrally positioned. The interior has been significantly altered and few original features remain. The roof structure is likely from the later 18th or 19th century.
