Description

This K6 telephone kiosk is a standardised design dating from the 20th century. It is constructed of cast iron and painted red, featuring long horizontal glazing in the door and sides, with applied crowns on the top panels rather than perforated ones. White rectangular display signs read "TELEPHONE" beneath the shallow-curved roof. The internal equipment has been modernised.

The kiosk is located in the northern half of the village, situated between the Kings' Arms Inn and a Pyramid Water Trough, both also listed buildings, within 5 metres of each. Antiques Cottage, another listed building, stands approximately 10 metres to the north east, across the road. These four listed buildings create a close visual relationship.

The K6 was designed by Giles Gilbert Scott in 1935 for the General Post Office to commemorate King George V’s Silver Jubilee. It evolved from his earlier K2 telephone kiosk design of 1924, which drew inspiration from Neo-classical architecture. The K6 was more streamlined, compact, and economical to mass produce. Over 70,000 K6 kiosks were eventually made, and while many were replaced in the 1960s, they remain an iconic feature of British streetscapes.

The kiosk is designated at Grade II for its strong visual relationship with other listed buildings and as a representative example of this significant 20th-century industrial design within a village setting.
