Description

The former barn, located about 100 metres north-east of Hunton Court, is a Grade II listed building. It dates from the late 17th century or early 18th century, with a core that is from the 15th or 16th century and later 18th-century additions. The structure is timber-framed and weatherboarded, standing on a plinth made of both brick and stone, topped with a plain tile roof.

The barn features seven timber-framed bays with front and rear aisles, and midstreys located in the third and sixth bays from the north-west end. It has a half-hipped roof and two hipped porches on the north-east side that rise from the aisle. On the south-west side, there are two porches; one is from the 19th century, while the other is taller, earlier, and has pronounced bracketed eaves, a jetty, a half-hipped roof, and two tiers of double doors.

Inside, the first five trusses from the north-west end are from the late 17th century or early 18th century, featuring long cut jowls on the principal posts, curved passing shores, arch braces, and a staggered butt purlin roof with vertical queen-struts supporting the rafters. The sixth truss dates from the 15th or early 16th century, characterized by angled jowls and heavy-scantling arcade braces. The seventh and eighth trusses are likely later 18th-century replacements, with unjowled principal posts, straight arcade braces, and clasped purlins with diminishing principal rafters. There are no mortices for internal partitions.
