Description

The Bull Oast is a mid-19th century oast house, now converted into a pair of houses. It is located in Hunton on the west side of East Street. The building is constructed of red brick in a Flemish bond pattern, with weatherboarding to the gable ends of the stowage and long-and-short stone quoins. It features a stone eaves band to the kilns and a slate roof to the stowage, with a plain tile roof to the kilns.

The stowage is rectangular and built at a right angle to the road, with three circular kilns on each of the long sides, set back from the gable ends. The stowage is three storeys high, while the kilns are now two storeys. It has a hipped roof to the stowage and conical roofs to the kilns, each topped with a cowl. A recessed, paned two-light casement window with splayed stone lintels and keystones is positioned on each floor, between the kilns and the front gable end. More recent 20th century casement windows are present on the road side of each kiln. The gable end of the stowage features a central loading door and frieze windows, which have been replaced with 20th century windows. An eaves pulley is located in the centre of the gable end. A panelled door is centrally positioned on the right kiln. The interior has not been inspected.
