Description
The barn immediately north of Loundsley Green Farmhouse is a Grade II listed timber-framed structure, now clad in stone, with a stone slate roof. It dates from the early 17th century or earlier. The barn consists of three bays, with a late 17th-century half bay added at the south end. Inside, the north truss features a tie beam with Queen struts, while the intermediate truss has a collar and a braced tie beam supported on jointed posts, along with lateral braces to the wall plate. The southern closed truss has diagonal braces and intact studding. The original oak rafters are pegged to a single purlin, and some wind braces remain. A large ridge purlin is hatched into the apex of the trusses. The north gable has been rebuilt in stone but incorporates an additional truss. The barn has substantial wall plates with intermediate posts at half bay intervals, showcasing a variety of truss types, making it an interesting survival of its kind.
