Description
This barn, located about 20 metres south-west of Hawkenbury Farmhouse, dates from the 17th century or early 18th century. It is timber framed and covered with broad weatherboarding, with a fragment of lath and daub infilling at the north-east end. The barn features a steeply-pitched half-hipped roof made of corrugated asbestos, while the north aisle has a plain-tiled roof. There are low doors at each end of the west elevation and a canopied arch-braced porch at both ends of the east elevation. Inside, the barn has six timber-framed bays, with midstreys in each penultimate end bay, and front, rear, and north-end aisles. Arch braces support all but the midstrey bays, with curved pasting shores and raked queen posts in the aisles. The roof structure includes clasped purlins with diminishing principal rafters and queen struts to the collars, along with straight windbraces.
