Description
Hawkenbury Bridge is a road bridge located partly in the civil parish of Headcorn. It dates from the 15th century and 18th century, with alterations from the 19th or 20th century. The bridge is constructed from uneven blocks of roughly coursed stone. Its parapet is made of red and grey brick in Flemish bond, with grey brick dressings, dating from the 19th or 20th century. The bridge features four arches; the two southern arches are likely from the 18th century and are rounded, with ashlared soffits and voussoirs. The northern arch is similar but much lower. The second arch from the north is 4-centred and low, with ashlared voussoirs and a stone rubble soffit. There are four rectangular cutwaters made of red and grey brick from the 19th or 20th century on the east side. The bridge has been widened to the west with red and grey brick from the 19th or 20th century.
