Description

HARRIETSHAM FAIRBOURNE LANE TQ 85 SE (east side)

4/40 Water Mill Circa 4 yards south of Mill House GV II Water mill, now store. C19. Timber framed. Ground floor red brick in Flemish-bond, rest weatherboarded with plain tile roof. 2 storeys and "garret" (ground floor partly below ground), with half-hipped roof. "Garret" end lit. 2 small 3-light casements to first floor and boarded door at left end of first floor. Rear lean-to added to left in same materilas also with door. Mill pond to south-west end. Interior: 3 timber-framed bays, with chamfered cross beams and substantial principal posts. Ground floor not seen. First floor has L-shaped platform 6" high opposte end from wheel. "Garret" has raised walkway with boarded sides, flanked by woodenbins at floor level. Partly boarded roof with ridge- piece. Stairs in lean-to and south end. Listed for group value.
