Description

Little Poll Pollhill is a house, now divided into two homes, that dates back to the 15th century with additions from the mid-19th century and restoration work completed between 1939 and 1940. The building features a timber frame with rendered infilling, while the ground floor on the left side is made of uncoursed stone with red brick dressings. It has a plain tile roof and is designed in the Wealden style, consisting of two open hall bays of roughly equal size, with storeyed bays at either end. The structure stands two storeys high on a plinth and has close-studded framing.

The right and left end bays project out, with the left jetty returning along the side elevation on a moulded dragon post, while the right side has a vestigial jetty, possibly with a cut-back dragon post. The roof is hipped and features very large gablets, with a small corbelled brick stack located off-centre to the left on the rear slope and a large projecting red brick stack on a stone base at the right end. There is also a mid-19th century stack on the left side elevation of the rear wing.

The building has irregular fenestration, including four 3-light leaded casements, and boarded doors leading to Pollhill at the rear of the left side elevation and to Little Poll at the left end of the right end bay. The original door was likely at the left end of the hall, where a cross-passage is suggested by the studding. The mid-19th century rear wing on the left is constructed of chequered red and grey brick with a plain tile roof, standing two storeys high and featuring two leaded casements on the first floor. The interior has not been inspected.
