Description
This barn, located approximately 27 yards north-north-west of Madams Court Farmhouse, dates from the early to mid-15th century and has undergone some alterations in the 19th century. It features a timber frame set on a brick plinth, with the left gable end constructed of 19th-century flint and brick dressings on the lower half, and a 19th-century brick gable on the right end. The remainder of the barn is clad in 19th-century weatherboarding, topped with a plain tile roof that is half-hipped to the left. There is a 19th-century canopy on the south side, with blocked doors directly opposite.
Inside, the barn comprises five bays; three of these are from the 15th century, while the two eastern bays are either 16th or 17th century but maintain a similar style. The barn has front and rear aisles, with the outer walls raised and rebuilt in the 19th century. A midstrey is located in the third bay from the west. The roof above the tie-beams was also rebuilt in the 19th century. The interior features tall, substantial 15th-century arcade posts resting on wooden cills, with heavy gunstock jowls and curved passing shores. There are archbraces connecting the tie-beams and arcade plate, and the arcade-plate has an edge-halved scarf joint.
