Description

Kippen is a house located on Torry Hill Road, dating from the 17th century and late 18th century, with early to mid-19th century additions. The rear of the house features red brick in English bond, while the front is constructed with red brick in Flemish bond. It has a plain tile roof and a 17th-century range that runs at right angles to the road, with a gabled cross-wing at the north end. The north elevation of the wing is made of late 18th-century brick, and there is an additional range built in the angle, creating a double-depth layout with the 17th-century range as the main entrance front.

The entrance front is two storeys high, set on a brick plinth, and features an eaves cornice with small modillions. The hipped roof has a wall-plate that stops short at the left end, with the left hip continuing down to a lower wall-plate of the rear return wing. There is a stack towards the right end. The front has a slightly irregular arrangement of four windows, consisting of three glazing-bar sashes and one painted window at the left end, with a similar window below it. All windows have rubbed brick voussoirs. A boarded door is located under the second window from the left, sheltered by a 20th-century canted brick porch. The left return wing has a dentilled eaves cornice and early 19th-century tripartite sashes. The rear elevation features a plat-band on the main range that rises to the wing, which has an additional band at the eaves. The interior has not been inspected.
